Goodhue opened day 1 of State with a 6-2 overall record. All 4 boys made it to day 2! Mason and Kelby started the tournament off fast, going 2-0 in their first round and quarterfinal matches.

Kaleb opened up with a 3-2 win to earn his first victory at state, after going 0-1 in his first appearance in 2015. Kaleb rebounded from a 3OT loss in the quarterfinal with a 9-0 performance in his consolation match. Ryan debuted at State by scoring a takedown on the top seed but got reversed to his back and pinned. However, Ryan returned the favor with a first period pin of his own to close the night.

Kaleb and Ryan compete in more wrestlebacks Saturday morning. Mason and Kelby will wrestle in the 10:15 semifinal round.

The boys are ready to wrestle. If you’re looking to tune in online, jump on if you haven’t at trackwrestling.com or grandstadium.tv for live steaming ($). If you can’t stream, Track Wrestling has a live dashboard to follow point scoring and positions. Search events for “MSHSL State” and enter the event as a viewer.

The matches are coming quicker as the rounds have progressed. Kelby is in the hole on Mat 5. Mason will be coming up on Mat 8. Kaleb and Ryan are a bit out, on Mat 3 and 1, respectively.

Goodhue Wrestling takes the mat at 11:00 a.m. in a Team Section 1A semifinal. Chatfield will lineup on the other side of Mat 1, and Caledonia and ZM compete in the top-side semi.

If you can’t make it to the Mayo Civic Center, follow along on the dashboard of Track Wrestling (click on “Events” -> “Search Events” -> type in MSHSL in search bar to find the tourney. Or follow match results posted to Twitter and Facebook. The semifinal winners will square off at 1:00 p.m. with a Section title on the line.

Tonight the opening rounds of the Section 1A Team tournament begin. The top 4 seeds host the other teams. #7 seed Dover-Eyota and #10 FCLMC square off in Goodhue’s gym at 6:00 p.m., and the winner advances to the quarter-final to meet Goodhue at approximately 7:00 p.m.

Quarter-final winners advance to compete at the Mayo Civic Center at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Two winners will meet in the finals at 1:00 p.m. for a Section 1A championship and a trip to State Tournament two weeks later.

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting the Volksfest beanbag tournament thanks to the generosity of the the Goodhue Jaycees. This great event will be held Saturday, June 10th beginning with registration at noon and at 1:00 bags will fly! This event is open to all ages and ability levels. We will have several side games along with our main event, a 64 team beanbag tournament double elimination bracket.

Goodhue Wrestling family and fans are invited to a welcome home tonight to celebrate the 2017 season! We will honor our Section Runner-Up Team, 13 Section competitors and 11 Section medalists, 4 state entrants and 3 medalists and 2x state champ!

Let’s celebrate the journey our young men started on a cold afternoon in November!

John and Mason compete in the opening Saturday round of consolation starting at 9. John will be up right away on mat 4. Mason will be about the 3rd match on mat 3. All Class A wrestlebacks are up first. 

The semis are scheduled to start at 10:15. Kelby will be on mat 1 and Bailee will follow him. Consolation matches will continue after the semis. 

The Goodhue boys are ready to wrestle! John comes out first on mat 7. Kelby is on 3, Bailee on 1, and Mason on 4.
