New Year’s Day Practices K-12

On New Year’s Day, all levels of Goodhue wrestlers will be getting on the mat!

The K-6 program will have a combined level practice from 1:00-3:00 p.m. This will be especially helpful for those competing in the upcoming Cannon Falls event on January 5th.

The 7-12 program will have practice from 3:30-5:30. Please note that this was not originally on the practice calendar at the beginning of the season. However, due to a variety of circumstances, including some missing practices due to family/holiday engagements and/or illness, the coaching staff added the practice to the break to have extra opportunities for everyone to improve.

Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

The Goodhue Wrestling Coaching Staff

Goodhue Jr. High Tourney 2013

We have over 150+ kids coming to wrestle tomorrow at our Goodhue Jr. High Tourney. We will setup after tonight’s basketball game, after we arrive back from our triangular in Stewartville.

Like last year, we will be wrestling in two gyms on 4 mats to hopefully have a quick and efficient tournament. We also hope to fill 8-man brackets using a new software bracketing system that will speed up the post weigh-in bracketing and get the tournament started on time.

Please have your wrestler(s) here before 7:30 so they can hop on the scale at that time quickly, as to allow other schools to weigh-in as they arrive as well in their “weigh-in window” that was pre-assigned.

Weigh-ins: 7:30 a.m.

Tourney Start: 9:30 a.m.

Format: 8 man brackets

Expected Finish time: 1-3:00 p.m.

7-12 Pictures (Wednesday) Dec. 11th

Reminder:

Pictures for individuals and team will be taken tomorrow (Wednesday) December 11th. Forms for picture ordering were sent home with the wrestlers tomorrow. The photography company prefers to have payment and registration forms in hand together for submission when they line up for their photos.

Please help your wrestler complete their picture form tonight (if you didn’t last night) so they can be ready to go at 2:30 tomorrow.

50th Anniversary Celebration Dual

The Goodhue Wrestling program kicks off the 2013-14 season – the 50th season – this Friday night!

We are hoping to have a great home opener in a triangular featuring La Crescent and St. Charles.

Alumni have been invited to come back and enjoy a night of wrestling celebrating 50 seasons of highlights and memories. We hope you’ll brave the predicted cold and pack the gym! Anyone and everyone is welcome, whatever your role with wrestling was/is, including former wrestlers, coaches, fans, parents, administrators and custodians, teachers, supporters/boosters, cheerleaders, table workers, referees, etc.

During the duals, memorabilia will be on display and current apparel and t-shirts will be available for sale while you visit.

The first dual will be between St. Charles and La Crescent at 5:00 p.m. Junior Varsity matches will be wrestled continuously on a second mat.

Goodhue will wrestle La Crescent around 6:00 p.m.

After this dual, former wrestle Mike Kurtii will MC a presentation of the program’s 50 seasons at approximately 6:30.

The dual with St. Charles will start after the presentation around 7:00 p.m.

After the dual, there will be food and beverages and cake provided in the wrestling room gym (cafeteria) for more socializing. Afterward many will be going downtown to continue socializing.

Please make every effort to attend a special night of wrestling and celebrating the many accomplishments of Goodhue Wrestling!

We’ve been having some fun getting out the old uniforms and warm-ups! Many of the current team members put on uniforms that their dads, uncles, and maybe even grandpa’s once wore.

Goodhue Wrestling Highlight Video 2012-2013

Were You There?

When Ryan Tipcke won the 220# Section 1A Title? (~3:00)

When the team pushed Lake City, and Josh Dahling upset a previous loss with “THE PIN” to put the team in the Section Semis? (~3:27, pics around 3:05)

When freshman and 6th seed, majored and then pinned the senior 3rd seed in the Section Quarter’s, then went on to beat the 2nd seed and punch his ticket to state at 113? (~4:12)

When Kyle Drehmel, the 3rd seed, avenged 3 regular season losses in the semis and finals to become the Section 1A 126# Champ? (~4:27)

Were you there when Jacob Blattner upset the 3rd seed in the Section semis with a reversal out of a leg ride at the buzzer and earn a trip to State! (~4:50)

Were you at the Xcel to cheer on the 4 Goodhue State Entrants, and watch two medal 3rd and 4th in tight match after tight match?

These are just some of them, and there are so many other awesome memories at every level lie behind us… and before us.

Will you be there?
